Before your appointment
Your referring physician generally sends relevant imaging, pathology reports and medical records before your consultation. If you are self-referring, you may be asked to provide those records directly. Contact your treatment center to confirm what is needed.
- Complete your registration, medical history and medical records release forms.
- Bring your completed forms to your appointment.
- Confirm that the care team has received relevant records and any required referral authorization.
At your consultation
Your radiation oncologist reviews your medical history and performs a physical examination. You will discuss the role of radiation, potential benefits, risks and side effects, and whether more studies are needed before making a recommendation.
Questions worth asking
- What is the goal of radiation in my case?
- What alternatives should I consider?
- How will treatment fit with my other cancer care?
- What side effects should I watch for, and whom should I call?
- How many visits might I need, and at which location?
